Mel Hall is a writer and musician who lives and works in Walyalup (Fremantle) on Whadjuk Noongar Boodjar. Her debut novel The Little Boat on Trusting Lane is coming out with Fremantle Press in 2021. Mel will share her writing journey and read from her work. Doors open 5.30 for a 6pm start.

About the event
Mel has previously been published by Ginninderra, Sleepers, Westerly, Meniscus, and other literary journals. Her work has been longlisted for major writing prizes, such as the Fogarty Literary Prize (2019), the Peter Carey Short Story Award (2019) and the Carmel Bird Digital Literary Award (2018).
As well as writing, Mel has played music in several outfits around Perth since 2006, including Salary, The Whistling Dogs, Dear Hella and Bluebirds. She was even once nominated for the WAM Song of the Year (2011).
Currently Mel is working on a coming-of-age novel set in her hometown, Northam, in the Ballardong region of Western Australia.
