The Mattie Furphy Short Story Competition is for an unpublished short story  by an Australian author.

Entry Fee: $ 22 Members of FAWWA

                  $ 27 Non-Members
 
Terms and Conditions:

1. All work must be previously unpublished. Work broadcast or published online in any way shall be considered, for the purpose of the Mattie Furphy Short Story Competition, to have been previously published, and may not be submitted. Any story that has been awarded or commended in any previous competition may not be submitted.
 

2. Competitors retain copyright in their entries, however agree that the Fellowship of Australian Writers WA (FAWWA) is granted the non-exclusive and non-commercial right to publish the winning, second and third place entries on its website for the term of one year (commencing from the announcement of the winner) for the purpose of promoting the Mattie Furphy Short Story Competition.
 

3. FAWWA will always credit the author of the work when reproducing the work and will not make any changes to the work without first seeking the prior written consent of the author.
 

4. Manuscripts submitted to the competition will be deleted after the competition. Please ensure you keep a copy.
 

5. The competition is judged blind. Please make sure your name DOES NOT appear anywhere except on the entry form. 

6. Your story must be no more than 3000 words, typed in a Serif font such as Times New Roman, 12pt and double spaced.
 

6. On the entry form, ensure all sections are filled out and the payment completed.

 

7. Your story must not be created by AI.

8. The competition is open to writers over the age of 18, whose normal place of residence is Australia

9. The judge’s decision is final. Competitors must not communicate with the judge before or during the competition.
 

10. The judge’s report, and the results of the competition will be published on the FAWWA website www.fawwa.org
